Unemployment money ends on December 28th 2013

Today is December 28th 2013 and this is the last day that anyone with unemployment can get paid. The government did not choose to extend this to the new year like they usually do. For the first time ever this is affecting me.

I don’t give a crap about those people who are really mean about this. The people who say the following really are the ones that drive me crazy:

1. Claim there are jobs out there you just have to apply.

2. Get a job then don’t depend on the government for ue only its not supposed to be your only income.

3. You are lazy for not getting a job and just living off ue you deserve this.

4. Take a minimum wage job part time just to make ends meet.

5. Get a job in fast food they are always hiring.

6. I got a job why cant you get a job its not that hard just don’t look for high end jobs.

7. You’d rather sit at home on the internet all day then getting a job.

8. It’s coming out of the paychecks of everyone else to pay for you to sit at home doing nothing.

First of all these are all very upsetting to anyone. Its so easy to judge when you are not in the same position and good luck to you if you EVER have to deal with ue or have someone close to you doing it and it affects you too. Good luck to you.

We can pray that congress is smart and on the 6th when they come back they pass something. For me I am now up in the air. My claim expires the 4th but I had 1.5checks left in this extension and could get another extension. I don’t know how this works. I am now debating if it would hurt to wait till the 6th to see what happens. I think they shouldn’t make us wait. 1.3million people are depending on UE all the time.

Lets start with those numbers up there I pulled those off some comments on a few articles about what is going on.

1. Sure there are jobs out there and you can apply all you want. But that doesn’t mean you are going to get an interview little alone the job. For example I tried for a job at a brand new Petsmart and they said for their small amount of people they hiring (they might hire more in coming weeks as they are now open) they got 300 people applying. IMAGINE that! I apply to about 5 jobs per week or 10 per two. I get an interview for every 10-15 job apps. Most I never hear back from and if I check back I find the positions have been filled. I want to add that during this past holiday season I heard on the new retailers hired LESS than last year. This didn’t help the situation at all for any of us trying for these.

2. First of all I know that UE is temporary and before you go and say well not everyone knows this of course they do. I do not get anywhere near what I used to get when I worked a real part time job. Its way below. I’m unsure how they figured this out but I am still grateful for this temporary situation. I have had a crap time this year trying for any job and I hate being on UE all the issues I have dealt with all year. Its not all fun on this end thanks.

3. I am lazy? Right. I deserve this? Right. Wait what? First of all being unemployment isn’t that much fun. Spending hours of the day EACH day applying for jobs more than likely wont get a shot at. Calling those back. Interviewing sometimes. And then still not coming away from a job. This is not lazy. And its undeserved. Sure its life its how the world is but don’t you dare say this is lazy! And I deserve this!

4. I am grateful while I do have stuff I need $$ for I don’t just like spend it on anything that I don’t have a car to pay for, rent, etc. And btw its rare for me to even think of applying for a job that isn’t part time minimum wage. I have lived off mw my whole life. The most I ever got a job for working there was $8.50 to start with or $8.25 after several raises. I would take anything at this point. Seriously ANYTHING.

5. Fast food jobs aren’t what they used to be. First of all fast food like most places even on the bottom they want you to have experience. I know from people working for places like Taco Bell and Chick-fla that they want you to have done this before. Lame? Sure. This was an easy job for kids when I was a teen 16 and get a fast food job. Today you need to be 18 and have done this before. Not everyone is cut out for fast food jobs I am one of those people. While I have applied for a few and even had an interview or two. I have not come away with anything. Fast food is more than running the register. Its being quick, being polite its being some things that not everyone is. And even they aren’t hiring all the time.

6. I think these people drive me the most crazy. Something I have learned from trying to get job this year and years before this too. You DO catch breaks. I have and I think everyone else does too. You walk in a job and get hired on the spot. They wont check your background or care for a second interview. I had a job few years ago where the manager hired me on the spot because he simply liked me. He told me they normally did two interviews but thought that it didn’t matter and I didn’t need a second one. So these do happen. But they aren’t that common. More than not I don’t get hired right then. I don’t. So that’s great you got a job its not that hard for you THIS time. Don’t look down on those struggling to get your luck this time. Its not fair and its not the same. Wait till your next job bet you wont get so lucky and score a job so quickly.

7. I am bored out of my mind about half the time. Do you know what I do when I am not trying to get a job? I sleep, I read books, I watch tv. But I would do anything to have a job. Its HORRIBLE. I have ADD I get bored easily and not working this long is scary. I am more scared for when I do finally get a job how I will be like acting. I am out of practice again and this isn’t a good thing. So no I would rather have a job then just sit at home online looking.

8. While I am unsure about how it works for other states. I know for a fact in California the money for our UE comes from the people we used to work for. It might be less than we made originally but its not coming from anyone else paychecks. I am unsure again like I said how it works for all the other 49 states. But for us in California that is not how it is. So stop saying this. You are NOT paying for me to not have a job.

Point being in all this. First of all think people. You just shouldn’t be saying mean things to people who are on the edge and nervous and stressed out. People with families and rent and things to pay that if not done will get them thrown out on the streets.

I wish I had the means to start a home biz and get experience. I have a BA degree. And I’ve gone to a tech school. But I still cant get a job without experience. Until the people who are hiring lower some of their standards people like me will continue to struggle to find work. Even small minimum wage jobs.
